12 Mile Yards

The cattle yards, built in 1969, were used for trapping wild cattle on Mataranka Station. The cattle were, depending on age and sex, either marked, dehorned, branded or taken to market.

The yards are located next to the camping ground. Swimming is permitted in the nearby Roper River, although the signs warning of crocodiles, and the permanent crocodile traps, might put some people off!
