International Sculpture Symposium

Broken Hill is well known for its range of artists and artworks.

The International Sculpture Symposium is part of the Living Desert. These sculptures were built on Sundown Hill in 1993. Twelve sculptors from around the world created the sculptures in 6 weeks, using only hand tools. 'Floating boulders' of Wilcannia sandstone, 52 tonnes in total with the largest being 8 tonnes, were hauled to the top of the hill for the sculptors to create their works.

There's a bit of a climb to the top of the hill, but the views of Broken Hill and the surrounding landscape make it worthwhile, even without the sculptures.
