I am currently travelling around Australia in a campervan. As I travel, I intend uploading details of where I've been and what I've done, along with my images. I still have thousands of photos to process and upload from early in my travels, so some of the links below have brief information about them but few images. Then I have the thousands of photos from before then . . .
Situated three hours drive north west of Adelaide, this park provides a range of bushwalks in dramatic mountain scenery. It bridges the arid northern and rainfall-rich southern regions, resulting in a mixture of flora and fauna from both areas.
The park has three main areas, all with a range of bushwalks:
The camping ground is very nice, although I'd recommend not visiting during school holidays. It's close proximity to Adelaide makes it very popular.
The camping ground is in a quiet location, surrounded by hills and lots of river red gums, alongside a creek with lots of rocks but no water. The camping area even includes hot (solar powered) showers!
The emus are unconcerned by the human population - there are 3 or 4 of them that wander around the camping ground as if they own it. It's scary when you're reading a magazine and look up to find a large bird towering over you. They come close enough to touch them, and when you're sitting down they seem much taller. Got some good close up photos.
Alligator Gorge has spectacular cliff faces and beautiful wildflowers - but is not accessible to caravans (including my van).
Mount Remarkable was named in 1840 by Edward John Eyre 'from the lofty way it towered above the surrounding hills'. I didn't get to climb it - something to do next time!
