The West MacDonnell National Park stretches for 161 kms west of Alice Springs. There are sealed roads to most attractions and, while it is possible to visit in day trips from Alice Springs, there are numerous camping locations. There are lots of walking tracks of varying difficulties.
The park contains lots of gorges, with permanent or semi-permanent waterholes, which are important refuges for plants and animals, of which the park contains 150 rare species.
