Tnorala (Gosse Bluff) Conservation Reserve

Tnorala (Gosse Bluff), 175 km west of Alice Springs, is a circle of rocky hills rising from the surrounding plains. It was formed 142 million years ago by the impact of a 1 km comet and named by the explorer Ernest Giles in 1872 after H. Gosse, a fellow of the Royal Society. There was extensive exploration for oil and gas, but only traces were found.

The best view (and photos) is from Tylers Pass Lookout. There's a 15 km, 4wd track to a picnic area inside the 20 km-wide crater, then a short walk to a lookout. It's a sacred Aboriginal site, with some areas not accessible and camping is not allowed at the site.
