The Flinders Ranges, which stretches to around 300 km, are home to nearly half SA's 3100 plant species, more than 120 bird, 86 reptile, 20 mammal species. Not real sure where the boundary is between Southern, Central and Northern.
Diverse range of landscapes with mountains on one side and the sea on the other. The area was important in the establishment of South Australia's rail, shipping, mining and farming industries and has many museums and heritage buildings.
I love the area. I could live here except that it gets too hot in the summer. There are excellent views of the mountains from before Pt Pirie right through and beyond Pt Augusta.
Plenty of bushwalking and bush camping. Good area for spring wildflowers.
